nadsa Concerts Newsletter - January 2025 |
First, a happy new year to all of our nadsa members, friends, helpers, and supporters - we couldn't do it without you! A special word for those of you who have joined us for the first time this year; I'm sure you'll find a warm and friendly welcome among fellow lovers of classical music in Newton Abbot. Do make yourselves known to any of the committee - the people with lanyards and name badges - and we'll make sure that any questions you may have are answered quickly and efficiently.
Our season continues on Sunday 19th January at 3.30pm (you hadn't forgotten the later starts this year, had you?) in the Courtenay Centre with a piano recital by the renowned South Korean pianist Young-Choon Park. Beginning her studies at the age of four, at nine years old she played the Beethoven First Piano Concerto with the Seoul Symphony Orchestra. After studying at the Juilliard School in New York she later gained the highest masters degree at the Hochschule in Munich. With a very busy schedule, she performs over fifty concerts each year, touring Europe, Scandinavia, South Africa, and the United States, appearing with many of the world's leading orchestras and at many music festivals.
Her concert for us will include
This promises to be an unforgettable afternoon with Young-Choon Park, a pianist whose artistry and dedication continue to captivate audiences around the world. “…the piano technique was dazzling with its insatiable strength and energy, her technical skill and accuracy were shown to be irreproachable…”
La Libre Belgique
“…individually refreshing, while demonstrating real passion and style as well as outstanding technical proficiency…”

If you don't already have a season ticket (always worth considering) you'll need to book early for this concert - it's bound to be popular! Put it in your diary and go to Young-Choon Park | nadsa Concerts to book your ticket. Remember there are no walk-ins! This concert is sponsored by David Brown, and we are very grateful for his support.
In terms of local music we seem to have entered a quiet season - all recovering from our carol concerts perhaps? The only thing to report for January is the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra concert at the University Great Hall in Exeter on Thursday 30th, when they'll be playing Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony, Stravinsky's Petrushka, and Mozart's Piano Concerto No.9. Look at Petrushka - Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra for more details and to book.
That's all for now; happy listening,
John R
