For our next concert we move to the winter timing, i.e. Sunday afternoon at 3.30pm, when we'll be delighted to welcome Norweigian pianist Kristian Lindberg back to Newton Abbot.
As a teenager Kristian won the Norwegian Young Pianists Competition, and the following year represented Norway in the Eurovision Young Musicians competition in Vienna. Since then he has been a prizewinner in several international competitions, and between 2006 and 2009 he was selected to play for the prestigious INTRO Classical programme, which promotes the cream of young Norwegian musicians.
Completing his soloist’s diploma (the highest level of postgraduate performance study) at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, he has since performed in Berlin, in New York's Carnegie Hall, the Wigmore Hall, London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Thailand Cultural Centre in Bangkok and the Kyotofuritsu Fumin Hall, appearing both as a soloist, and with a number of prestigious orchestras. His PhD, The Orchestral Piano, was completed in 2019 at the Norwegian Academy of Music, and he has since taught at the Academy. His solo album Of Innocence and Experience featuring music by Beethoven, Schumann and Liszt was released in the following year, and in August 2023 he was appointed Artist in Residence at Harstad, Norway. Kristian's programme for us on Sunday will include
Some of Kristian's music can be heard here - https://www.kristianlindberg.com/music, and you can buy tickets for his concert at https://nadsa.co.uk/event/kristian-lindberg-piano-concert/ but don't delay; this is sure to be a popular afternoon. With music ranging from the Baroque, through the Classical and Romantic periods and into the 20th century, there's something here for everyone to enjoy.
We are grateful to Penelope Stinton for kindly sponsoring this concert.
What else is happening in the big wide musical world? Nothing much hereabouts, it seems!
At the Great Hall in Exeter the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Kevin John Edusei will perform Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto when Nelson Goerner will be the soloist, to be followed by Prokofiev's 5th Symphony - more information at https://bsolive.com/events/beethovens-emperor-exeter/
That's all for now; happy listening,
John R
